The anthology
Every post in reading order, oldest first: one continuing story. Each line is what the post found.
- #1 Cargo Only Floats Downhill: The River Trade of a Mountain Island
92 percent of the island's river cargo floats downhill, so the barge vanished and boatmen walk their empty boats back up the rapids
- #2 A Stair at Mavigol That Leads Back Where It Started
Below Mavigol a 7.8 m stair steps off the stone road and comes back to the spot it left, heaped against the kerb: the grown road network laid it, the record keeps it, the builder built it as written; the team has decided such riding strokes go unbuilt (decided, not yet built or on main)
- #3 Who Built the Rainbow Gate?
The island's four colossal monuments are measured to the metre (one foot of the 1,165 m Gate covers more ground than any of the 19,460 buildings laid so far; the Hundred Arches has exactly a hundred arches), and the towns at their feet are named for them; who made them, no one on the island can say
- #4 The Holy City Has a Place Now
Every Muslim grave on the island now lies across the way to one holy city, on a shore no map shows; until this week the graves agreed on nothing
- #5 How Does a Port 209 m Above the Sea Load Its Ships?
Labuhan Harjo, a port city of 10,868 the economy runs 31 ships from, stands 209 m up the Weeping Wall beside its own river's fall into the sea, seen when the island's maps learned to draw every coast's height as a shadow
- #6 Forty-Five Metres Over the Rainbow Gate
A camera flight that looks flown is planned whole before it is flown: the first take hung level 720 m over a valley, since a string laid over the crests cannot sag; three films now rise out of a slot canyon into a low sun, cross 45 m over the Rainbow Gate's crown and run the Hundred Arches to the Black Shard
- #7 Firewood for Winter, in a Word the Plans Didn't Know
In the farms' slack weeks 1,705 crews of three cut firewood in 276 settlements and 134 pairs gather desert brush in 42, a third of the island, much of the east's wood going west by sea; until 19 October the town generator had no word for either and would have refused all 318 plans whole, and each crew now has a woodpile and sawpit lot by its village
- #8 2,585 Hollows and Three Lakes
The island's map shows 2,585 hollows that could hold a lake and three lakes: the erosion silted the rest flat, and a closer look drains a quarter of the largest
- #9 1.9 km of Road Ran Inside a Lake. Now It Keeps to the Shore
Five cart tracks round Girpilio ezeras ran 1,902 m inside the lake's new exact outline, all but 38 m of it on ground below the water's level that the game draws as dry land; they are laid again on the shore (version 39 of the road record, laid once it is on main), a ferry from Girpilis to Alksniai and a path down to frozen Himinvatn are coming (version 40), and the lit renders are not made yet
- #10 The Island's People Settled. Its Trade Never Has.
Each of the island's 900 ledgers closes, yet the trade between them has never settled: twelve runs each stopped after eight rounds with 85 to 478 villages still taking orders, so the economy becomes a versioned record, checked island-wide and stepped only where it is out of balance (the step, on its first trial, did not settle)
